Living History Australia can provide performances and activity days tailored to the age and learning level of the audience. 

Standard Performances usually have a 1½ - 2 hour duration (although this can be altered to suite your timetable) and can be tailored to suit indoor and outdoor venues (an indoor venue is strongly preferred).  Support material is provided for each performance.

Teachers can select one of our Standard Performances which cover a number of time periods.  These standard performances have been designed to give a well-rounded view of a particular period in history.  Alternatively you can choose your own combination of nine characters from our character menu.

We can also provide a full day of activities to accompany each of the performances.

Please note that the Modern Australia performance is not a standard performance and normally runs for 2-3 hours. The team will engage with the audience at the end of the performance to discuss and debate various aspects of the character portrayals as well as what the students have been covering in class.

Standard Performances

The Ancient World Commencing with a look at New Kingdom Egypt and Ancient Greece the performance moves through to the fall of the Roman Empire. Looking at issues such as democracy, slavery and ancient warfare this performance delivers a broad overview of the Ancient World.
The Roman Empire Portraying the Roman Empire from the fall of the republic to the sacking of Rome.  The characters examine aspects of Roman political, civilian, military and religious life. We look at how it was possible for the Roman Empire to have lasted a thousand years and discuss how the Western World was shaped by the Romans.
The Middle Ages Focusing on the Middle Ages from the Crusades to the Renaissance, this performance focuses on the time that forms a bridge between the modern and ancient worlds. The Middle Ages gave rise to the middle class, modern scientific thought, new models of government and impassioned explorers to seek new lands and new opportunities. Much of what was lost in the Dark Ages was preserved and then transferred back to the West from the lands of Islam at a time when enlightened thought and leadership were centred in the East.
Warriors Through the Ages This performance focuses on male and female warriors through history. An exciting compilation of soldiers and heroes examine the development of warfare from Ancient Egypt to the Vietnam War.
Colonial Australia Covering the period from the First Fleet to Federation.  This programme examines European Settlement of Australia from both the Indigenous and European perspectives, and follows the growth of the young colony into Nationhood.
Modern Australia This programme examines Australia’s first faltering steps toward finding a distinctive identity. From Federation to the dismissal of the Whitlam Government, Australians are explored in light of the tumultuous events of the 20th Century. World events transformed Australia from a collection of separate colonies into a nation who hold diversity and egalitarianism dear and yet have a unique culture which is admired throughout the world.
